Radio has been the primary advertising tool for album sales and a large outlet for artists to get their music heard. Whether AM or FM, radio has always delivered anything interesting enough for listeners to tune into. For satellite radio, there are no limitations to censorship, playlists, commercials or in other words, any of the bullshit that comes along with normal FM radio. Sirius Satellite has a major audience worldwide with their broadcasting. Among their many stations, Shade 45 is one of many that have officially put their stamp on the satellite radio world.
Angela Yee is one of the many hosts on the Shade 45 roster. Being one of the only female air personalities, she co-hosts alongside Cipha Sounds for the Cipha Sounds Effect Show, as well as hold her own with her brand new show titled Lip Service. Angela started working as an assistant for RZA’s brother Divine of the Wu-Tang Clan for Wu-Tang management. While taking up Marketing as a primary career goal, Angela ended up developing a good enough relationship with Eminem’s manager Paul Rosenberg as she worked on Shady Limited clothing line. While trying to apply for a marketing job for Sirius, Angela was tapped by Paul about the co-hosting position for the Cipha Sounds Effect show and not too long after, she was hired.
Angela lets us in on the advantages of working for satellite radio while filling us in on the exclusivity of her new show. “Sirius is great because number one, its not regional, its worldwide, so people in Iraq, like some of our soldiers will call and e-mail us and say that they’re listening which is a great thing. So it is a good thing to know what’s going on over the world.”
As busy as Angela appears to be these days, she gave us some insight on her new show Lip Service on Shade 45, along with the hopes of accomplishing a lot more in the near future. “I just recently got my own show, it’s called Lip Service and it’s the only female show here on Shade 45 with Leah Rose, she’s the music editor at XXL magazine. So we’re gonna be doing a lot of fun stuff on the show. Now that I started doing radio, it’s been two years and I think that this is really what I wanna do. I can make a career out of doing this and you know, hopefully spin off some side ventures. I always wanted to write a book so you know, because what you say and do around me, it might be in my book. I really wanna do radio for the rest of my life, its really fun. As I get older, I’ll be like the old Hip Hop person. That’s when Hip Hop is gonna be like classic.”
Angela Yee is definitely taking care of business these days as she holds down the Shade 45 radio roster the number one and only female running things. You can catch Angela on the Cipha Sounds Effect on Mondays-Fridays from 8-12 am ET. You can also hit her up on her myspace at www.myspace.com/angelayee.
